Physical Bullion And ETF Wrappers

This node covers listed vehicles that turn vaulted gold or silver into tradable shares: physical bullion trusts, bullion ETFs, closed-end trusts, and a small set of ETF wrappers that use miner or hybrid exposure as comparators. The core question is not mine margin. It is whether the wrapper gives clean metal NAV exposure after custody, authorized-participant creation and redemption, fees, bid/ask spread, premium or discount, tax structure, and liquidity. The current read is source-routed only: `GLD`, `IAU`, `PHYS`, `GLDM`, `SGOL`, `SLV`, `PSLV`, and `SIVR` form the physical-wrapper watchlist; `SLVR` is a hybrid silver watch item; `GDX` and `GDXJ` are deferred miner ETF comparators. None of the eleven tickers has verified local OHLC coverage, so this page does not enable selected-security charts.

Report boundary: this is a source-routed monitor page. It ranks wrapper usefulness and evidence gaps, but it does not store canonical company research and it does not embed chart data. Canonical lanes remain in ../knowledge; price rows remain in ../discovery; future chart coverage requires local daily_ohlc backfill.

Current Setup

Source-routed wrapper monitor No local API-backed charts; rank by wrapper fit and evidence coverage.

The useful wrappers are the ones that isolate gold or silver NAV, then disclose the custody, fee, liquidity, premium or discount, and creation/redemption evidence needed to trust the exposure.

Positive proof Filed lanes support GLD, PHYS, SLV, GDX, and SLVR. Missing-lane wrappers still belong when they complete the gold or silver vehicle comparison.
Conversion gate Metal price must become clean NAV per share. Watch AP mechanics, closed-end discounts, custodian evidence, bar lists, fees, and trading spread.
Primary constraint Every candidate is missing local OHLC coverage. Charts, return grids, EMAs, and setup labels stay disabled until discovery coverage is backfilled.

Local coverage checks found no daily_ohlc rows and no instrument records for GLD, IAU, PHYS, SGOL, GLDM, SLV, SIVR, PSLV, GDX, GDXJ, or SLVR. This page therefore has no selected-security chart rail and no chart triggers.

Basket

Ranking starts with direct physical wrappers, then closed-end trust mechanics, then source-needed peer wrappers, then hybrid and miner ETF comparators. Missing local API coverage does not exclude a ticker from the source-routed basket; it changes the treatment to source-only and prevents chart behavior. Missing canonical lanes are stated on the card.

Core physical wrappers

1

GLD SPDR Gold Shares

Benchmark gold wrapper for NAV, AP mechanics, custody, fee, bar-list, and liquidity checks.

Wrapper typeGold trust
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceLane filed

Role in stack

Turns vaulted gold into exchange-traded shares. The economic path is gold NAV less expenses, with AP basket activity and secondary-market liquidity bridging trust assets to investor execution.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. The relevant source fields are NAV, ounces, shares, fee drag, custody documents, bar list, AP creation/redemption, premium or discount, and spread.

Proof burden

Keep sponsor NAV, holdings, bar-list, AP activity, premium/discount, and fee evidence current. Local chart coverage is missing and must be backfilled before this can be API-backed.

2

IAU iShares Gold Trust

Gold ETF peer needed for fee, liquidity, custody, and NAV-tracking comparison with GLD.

Wrapper typeGold trust
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceMissing lane

Role in stack

Gives listed physical-gold exposure and helps test whether GLD's liquidity advantage is worth its vehicle cost and structure. It belongs even without a canonical lane because it is a central gold-wrapper peer.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. Use issuer filings and product pages for NAV, bullion holdings, fee, custodian, AP mechanics, premium/discount, and trading spread.

Proof burden

Needs a canonical lane and local discovery coverage. Do not infer current holdings, fees, flows, or spread unless the issuer or filing source is in the source trail.

3

PHYS Sprott Physical Gold Trust

Closed-end physical gold trust that adds Mint custody, redemption, tax-source, and discount-to-NAV checks.

Wrapper typeGold CEF
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceLane filed

Role in stack

Converts physical gold into closed-end trust units. Investor execution depends on gold NAV and the market discount or premium, not only on the metal price.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. The useful fields are NAV, units, ounces, Mint custody confirmation, redemption terms, trust expenses, tax resources, and discount/premium history.

Proof burden

Confirm that custody, redemption, and NAV discount evidence remain current. Local OHLC and instrument records are missing, so chart and return treatment stay off.

4

GLDM SPDR Gold MiniShares Trust

SPDR gold wrapper peer that belongs in the fee and execution comparison once current issuer documents are attached.

Wrapper typeGold trust
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceMissing lane

Role in stack

Provides another State Street physical-gold wrapper, useful for comparing fee drag, share price design, custody route, and trading practicality against GLD and IAU.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. Use official product and filing evidence for NAV, gold holdings, fees, custodian, basket mechanics, premium/discount, and spread.

Proof burden

Needs a canonical lane and local price coverage. Do not carry exact current product economics unless the issuer or filing source is linked in the source trail.

5

SGOL abrdn Gold ETF Trust

Physical gold peer included to complete the wrapper map, with official mechanics still source-needed.

Wrapper typeGold trust
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceSource-needed

Role in stack

Should test an additional physical-gold custody and fee route once official abrdn product, prospectus, or SEC filing evidence is linked.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. Current fee, custody, holdings, premium/discount, and spread fields remain source-needed for this report layer.

Proof burden

Needs official source capture, a canonical lane, and local OHLC coverage. Until then, keep it as a source-only wrapper peer, not an API-backed card.

Silver wrappers

6

SLV iShares Silver Trust

Benchmark silver wrapper for NAV, ounces, custody, AP baskets, fee drag, and silver-demand checks.

Wrapper typeSilver trust
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceLane filed

Role in stack

Turns vaulted silver into exchange-traded shares. It is the main monitor for silver NAV, AP function, trust ounces, premium/discount, and physical silver investment demand.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. The source fields are NAV, ounces, shares, sponsor fee, bar-list and custody evidence, AP baskets, premium/discount, and spread.

Proof burden

Track ounces, redemptions, bar-list evidence, AP function, and silver supply/demand revisions. Local daily OHLC is missing, so no chart treatment is enabled.

7

PSLV Sprott Physical Silver Trust

Closed-end physical silver trust that adds Mint custody, redemption, tax-source, and discount-to-NAV checks.

Wrapper typeSilver CEF
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceMissing lane

Role in stack

Gives closed-end trust exposure to physical silver. It is needed to compare SLV's ETF mechanics against a trust with different custody, redemption, and discount behavior.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. Use Sprott and filing evidence for NAV, ounces, units, Mint custody, redemption terms, trust expense, tax resources, and discount or premium.

Proof burden

Needs a canonical lane and local OHLC coverage. The card should not imply current discount, holdings, or tax treatment without the official source route.

8

SIVR abrdn Silver ETF Trust

Physical silver peer included to complete the wrapper map, with official mechanics still source-needed.

Wrapper typeSilver trust
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceSource-needed

Role in stack

Should test another physical-silver ETF route once official abrdn product, prospectus, or SEC filing evidence is linked.

Revenue mix

No operating revenue mix applies. Current fee, custody, holdings, premium/discount, and spread fields remain source-needed for this report layer.

Proof burden

Needs official source capture, a canonical lane, and local price coverage. Until then, keep it source-only and separate from API-backed instruments.

Hybrid and deferred comparators

9

SLVR Sprott Silver Miners And Physical Silver ETF

Hybrid silver wrapper with a miner sleeve and physical silver exposure, so it is a watch item rather than core bullion exposure.

Wrapper typeHybrid ETF
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceLane filed

Role in stack

Bridges physical silver exposure and silver-miner equity beta. It helps compare pure silver NAV against miner operating leverage, but it should not be treated as a direct bullion substitute.

Revenue mix

ETF-level revenue mix does not apply. The key source fields are holdings mix, physical silver sleeve, miner concentration, NAV, market price, spread, expense, and index methodology.

Proof burden

Confirm that the physical sleeve and miner holdings remain useful together. Weak miner cost conversion, spread widening, or concentration risk would keep this below pure wrappers.

10

GDX VanEck Gold Miners ETF

Deferred comparator for miner ETF beta, not a physical bullion wrapper.

Wrapper typeMiner ETF
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceDeferred

Role in stack

Shows how a wrapper can express gold through miners rather than metal. The economics route through production, AISC, capex, reserves, jurisdiction, and equity risk.

Revenue mix

No ETF operating revenue mix applies. Look-through miner revenue and cash flow belong in miner nodes, not in this physical-wrapper page.

Proof burden

Keep it deferred here. Miner ETF confirmation requires constituent cost and free-cash-flow evidence that this node does not underwrite.

11

GDXJ VanEck Junior Gold Miners ETF

Deferred junior-miner ETF comparator with missing canonical lane and non-bullion economics.

Wrapper typeJunior miner ETF
Local APIMissing
Lane/sourceDeferred

Role in stack

Shows higher-beta miner ETF exposure, but it belongs in miner, developer, or reserve-optionality work rather than the core physical wrapper basket.

Revenue mix

No ETF operating revenue mix applies. The look-through companies need mine-level and financing evidence before the wrapper can be useful in this theme.

Proof burden

Needs a canonical lane and local market-data coverage. Keep it excluded from core wrapper ranking until junior-miner evidence is sourced.

Card status fields are source and coverage labels, not market data. No AUM, fee, premium/discount, holdings, tax, or flow value is printed unless the linked knowledge lane or official source trail supports it.

What Confirms Or Weakens

Area What confirms What weakens or invalidates Watch next
01 Node thesis Metal NAV exposure
What confirms

Issuer NAV, market price, shares or units, bullion ounces, and custody records reconcile, while the market price stays close to NAV.

What weakens or invalidates

Persistent premium/discount dislocation, unexplained holdings changes, missing bar-list evidence, or trust filings that no longer match the product description.

02 ETF mechanics AP creation and redemption
What confirms

Authorized-participant baskets function normally, exchange liquidity is orderly, and issuer filings show no change to creation/redemption terms.

What weakens or invalidates

AP stress, wide spreads, halted basket activity, settlement problems, or custody changes that impair the link between bullion and listed shares.

03 Closed-end trusts Discount and redemption
What confirms

PHYS and PSLV discounts stay controlled, custody confirmation remains current, and redemption terms remain practical for the intended holder base.

What weakens or invalidates

Discounts widen, redemption friction rises, Mint or bar-list evidence goes stale, or tax-source assumptions change without updated documentation.

04 Source coverage Lanes and official routes
What confirms

Missing lanes are filed for IAU, GLDM, SGOL, PSLV, SIVR, and GDXJ, and official source routes are added for each issuer, prospectus, filing, and bar-list source.

What weakens or invalidates

The page starts using unsourced fees, holdings, AUM, tax treatment, flows, or custody claims before official product or filing evidence is linked.

05 Local data Discovery backfill
What confirms

Discovery stores instrument records and daily OHLC rows for the ranked basket, with lineage that supports weekly charts, EMAs, and volume.

What weakens or invalidates

Any chart, return-grid, setup label, or price-action claim appears before local OHLC coverage exists and is verified.
